Fire Prevention Week

Last week was fire prevention week here in our city and the local fire department put on quite an event for the kids. Jacks brought home the flyer from school about what was going to occur and said we HAD to GO!! I looked at the date and it was set for a Monday night..sweet, easy FHE night right...WRONG! We decided to leave about an hour into when the activities started and that was our biggest downfall! There were so many people there and the lines were outrageously long! Jared and I asked the kids if they wanted to stay and of course they did. So we set about looking around and choosing what to do first.

Well, Jacks saw the fire hose event and he decided that's what he HAD to go and do. So we stood in line for 30 MINUTES to have him and Mikaela have like 20 seconds of spraying the fire man hose. If you can't tell by the pictures it was getting pretty dark already and this was just the first thing we had done!! They loved it though and after doing this they were psyched to do more.

So next they decide to go and wait in line to ride the fire truck. Easy enough I thought. Once again, WRONG. An HOUR later, that's right an HOUR later, we finally got to ride the fire truck. It's 8:15 p.m. by now and all of us (well except for Jared who would probably be comfortable even living in Antartica) are freezing by now. The night go so chilly and we were not prepared to be out in the cold, let alone for that long! Here we are, tired, cold, but yet still so excited to ride the fire truck! I really don't mean to be so negative but get this, after all that wait, the siren is broken and the ride lasted 20 seconds! Luckily our kids are the eternal optimists in our family and got off saying they had had the time of their lives!

Now since it was so late most of the people had left and the fireman pole was free. No waiting in line for this...YAHOO!! They loved sliding down the pole so much they didn't want to stop:)
For the kids it was a great night and I guess that's all that matters right:) Next year we'll plan better!

That stinks that you had to wait so long for everything. Oh well, as long as the kids remember it as being fun that is all that matters. Looks like good times.

LOL...so glad we had other plans that night, or we would have been in line right there with ya!
